Santee, San Diego County
Mission Trails Regional Park rises along the western edge of Santee, a preserve of more than 7,000 acres of chaparral hills and river canyon. Within it stands the Old Mission Dam, built by the padres around 1815 to send water down a flume to Mission San Diego. Santee Lakes, a chain of seven fishing lakes, has drawn anglers and picnickers since 1961.
